This is good - for me at least...

I don't think I've ever had a weekend where I just got to talk to people and catch up in the past 3 years like this one. For the most part it wasn't even catching up but just talking. Anyways, this isn't some big epiphany or anything, just of a moment of clarity. 


Life keeps moving and when you're with people you enjoy life moves a little bit slower for you, gives you time to enjoy the moments that you had. Last weekend with some members of SCV at in our final weekend at WGI, I was fortunate enough to have that despite how the rest of the season went. Going into this weekend, first free weekend in probably over 6 months, definitely the first this year, you forget how fast time goes and how much you attach yourself to certain moments in life.

I'm thankful for people that I have involved in my life. More importantly that no matter what that they've somehow proved that they'll always be there no matter what, whether they realized it or not. Equally whether I realized it or not, clearly though I have, took some time though. 

On a flip side times have been a bit rough between me and other people. Somehow I've managed to take away a lot of emotion when interacting with certain people and it's been trying to say the least. By no means is this drama in any situation just trying to figure it out. After this weekend, I'm just going to leave things the way they are. For the amount of thought that has gone this week figuring out if it was worth it or not, to have to think about it probably speaks for itself. I guess this is why I'm thankful for the friends that I have because I know they'll always be there without thought. This person though, maybe, but for the moment probably not. I really did enjoy the past year though, things just changed. 

Thanks for Taking This Away

If the title sounds a little bitter that's because I am. 

My friends don't live close by, it's not like I get to see them every day or talk to them on a daily basis. It isn't like college where all I had to do was just go down the hall and there they were. I don't get the opportunity to call anyone anymore and ask if they want to go out either. The job and color guard take up my time for most of the week. So I thought I had this, a way to share what's going on with me with the people I don't get to see or talk to that much anymore. I don't go out and publicly advertise that I have a blog. I wanted this to be a place to be a medium of communication between me and those I actually want to read it, without having to subscribe and become a member. That's inconvenient, having to create an account, sign in and sign out. Why go through all that when you could just read it? 

Unfortunately that can't be the case. Thanks to my high schoolers, they completely took this away from me. While what I post is completely harmless, I have no interest in having my high schoolers involved with my personal life. I'm there to teach, I'm there to put together a show and I'm there to make sure that they succeed. In no way does my personal life come into that, and it shouldn't. This is a job, and it's treated as such. One problem with text is that it can be interpreted in different ways and to ensure the integrity of what is written I've just decided to not write at all. 

Like I said, I wanted this to be a convenient way for me to communicate with my friends. It isn't convenient for me to change the privacy settings on a post, it isn't convenient for me to have to worry about who reads this, it isn't convenient to make others make an account when they shouldn't have to.

I couldn't care less about what your opinion is of what you read. What I do care about is what you do with what you've read. If your intention was just to read, that's was the intention of this blog. If your intention was to pry yourself into someone else's life, that's not why this is here. If your intention was to gather details and use it to your advantage, that's the worse case scenario. That's what I have to assume because you never know how this blog will be taken. 

So thank you California High School. Thank you for making my business your business and telling everyone about it. I'm sure I'll hear about it, but that's not what I'm bitter about. I'm bitter because you've taken away a form of communication between myself and my friends. Although I'm sure in your intrusion upon my life that's what you were thinking about.

An Update: The New Job

I'm loving the new job and it's only day 2. Slowest time of the day is around 3:00pm but that's when I used to get out with CalTrans. Working with the high schoolers has been rewarding to say the least. 


In just a few sentences, things are going good.

An Update: One Killer Week

Wake up, band camp, go to work, sleep and repeat. Doesn't sound bad, until you put times to that.

Wake up: 8:30am
Band Camp: 10:00am
Work: 7:00pm
Sleep: 4:30am
Repeat.

That's been my schedule for this and next week. I do not intend to ever pull a schedule like this ever again. Bags under the eyes, constantly edgy, I'm too old for this. Yes, 22 years old is too old to pull a schedule like this.

No more CalTrans

I think I've griped about CalTrans enough, so no explanation necessary. As of August 30 I won't be working for the California Department of Transportation. On August 31 I start my new job with BKF Engineers, the firm I wanted to work for in the first place.

10 Things: What I Miss from Drum Corps

I have to admit that I miss drum corps. I don't miss the 9-9 rehearsal days, the sleeping on gym floors, wondering if the next school has a hot shower, hoping that the next school has a shower, cleaning the ballad and chaning the drill for the sixth time, texas, the south, sock tan, and getting beat the bluecoats. There are a ton of other things though that I will miss and here are the top ten, in no order:


01. Performing at CSU East Bay, and seeing the view of the bay while walking to the stadium.

02. Nicely tanned body.

03. Sucking in your gut when you're getting measured for your uniform at the beginning of the season so it fits at the end of the season. 

04. The ability to eat and drink whatever you want and lose it by the next block. 

05. Understanding the true meaning of grounding as you change in the middle of the aisle as the bus is in motion. 

06. Walking off the field and seeing the smiles on peoples faces after a show.

07. Performing to the camera and forgetting about the fact there's an audience or a box so you can be on the big screen, dvd, or get your picture taken by jolesch. 

08. Hearing Brandt Crocker announce your corps name when you go on the field.

09. Funnel cake from the Allentown, PA show @ J. Birney Crum Stadium.          

10. Coming back home and your clothes are a bit bigger than they were before.
